Where tradition learns to move

Rigorous training and a warm community for dancers from age five to adult.

Our story

Rudralayam began in a living room with six students and one teacher who believed that classical dance belongs to everyone willing to practise it.

Our guru trained for many years in the traditional way, learning from teachers who learned from theirs. That lineage shapes every class: careful footwork, clear hand gestures (mudras) and the storytelling expression called abhinaya.

Today our students perform at community festivals, temple celebrations and, when they are ready, their own arangetram (a solo debut performance). Whatever their goal, we teach each dancer to move with discipline, understanding and joy.

What families say

  • My daughter started here at six, shy and unsure. Three years on she walks onto a stage and smiles. The teachers expect a lot, and they give even more.

  • I hadn't danced since college. The adult class made it easy to begin again, and I now look forward to Thursday evenings all week.
